Having just watched (via webcam) the Hovercraft depart from Ryde IOW for the mainland, and noticing how they check the beach/mudflats behind the craft (which always faces landwards) for people before it departs, I wondered what would happen if it ran over somebody on the beach.
I guess the skirt might cause bruising/abrasions but inside the skirt wouldn't it just be increased air pressure for a brief period as the craft passed - or would the pressure be of a lethal strength.
Our class went on a trip to the Goodwin Sands on the Princess Margaret when it was being trialled. Must have been about 1967 - we set up blackboards and had a 'lesson' on the sands before the tide covered it. It was featured on the local telly and in the papers.
