Dogs can cry tears of joy when they are reunited with their owners, a small study has found.

This makes me feel that I never want to leave them. Aren't we dog owners the lucky ones? I think so. :o)

Though I believe it to be true, I am not sure the Japanese study proves it.
I look after dogs when their owners holiday, and ones I only see once a year yelp with happiness when they see me.

I agree with Gromit.......a study of 22 dogs from the University of Nidjnigrovnod who had paper tester, stuffed into their eyes...........I would cry too.

Just asked my lad if he cries tears of joy when i return from a hard day's graft. In reply, he licked his whatsits, yawned, scratched his ear then closed his eyes again:-(

The study proves the dogs are please to see their owners after 5 hours on their own. It does not prove after a long period of absence. As I say, I have seen that to be true from my own experience, but the Japanese study is in no way proof.

I remember when I was married, many years ago, we had a little rescue pup and when the marriage broke up, the pup was about two years old and he came to live with me. After about three years, I was out walking him when we bumped into my ex who neither of us had seen in the intervening years. My dog went ballistic, he squealed, cried, barked and jumped around in circles on seeing my ex and could barely conceal his excitement even when ex kneeled down and petted and stroked him. To be fair, it upset me because he obviously missed his 'Dad' and after that we never saw him again. I didn't spot any tears though.

Nowadays naomi a lot of couples have shared custody of the dog(s), never entered our heads back in the day to do anything like that. I think Chappie would have liked that, bless him.

Sad, Naomi? I found it quite heartening that the dog should remember it's master after 3 years absence. As long as the dog didn't start pining for Shirl's ex afterwards.
