Where the hell did the phrase 'early doors' come from? Mainly used by football players or managers as in, 'We got a goal early doors'? I've never known a door to be early, or late for that matter!!!
Ron Atkinson, the football manager and commentator, is often credited (?) with inventing this term instead of just using the word "early". But it seems to have originally been a theatrical and music hall expression for the members of the audience who came to an early evening performance.
