"Welby was slapped with three points on his licence and ordered to pay £510 for driving in his VW Golf at 25mph in a 20mph zone. The incident took place last October on London’s Albert Embankment."
I don't like Welby much, but that seems an excessively high fine.
Is this all part of Sadiq Khan's war on London motorists?
Even with God's help it's not easy to maintain exactly 20mph, an extra 5mph should be tolerated, - it isn't exactly 'speeding' is it?

Yes Khandro. Part of Khans vindictive war on motorists. He want's to kill London's commerce dead
Me thinks it wasn't his first speeding offence as the fine does seem excessively high. If it was his first he would of been offered a speed awareness course and received no fine or points except for the cost of the course which varies up to about £100.Perhaps if he spent less time bothering God he could of spared half a morning in his living room doing the course on zoom.

I may not like his recently expressed opinions, but when it comes to 20 mph zones interspersed with more normal ones, he has my sympathy. The authorities need to shove their 20mph zones where the sun doesn't shine, and sack everyone involved in implementing them. 30 mph served well for many many decades, and folk knew that the onus to ensure safety was on the individual. These days it's always a case of, "What can we pin on the automobile and how can we get at the drivers ?". Society needs to get back to sanity.

A speed of 25mph, in a 20mph zone, has a 'starting point' sentence of 3 penalty points plus a Band A fine:

A Band A fine has a 'starting point' of 50% of 'relevant weekly income' (which is broadly equivalent to 'take home pay'):

That's why, for example, a top Premier League footballer can be fined many thousands of pounds for the same offence that someone on the National Living Wage only has to pay a much smaller amount than.
The Archbishop's salary is around £85k but expenses that are paid on his behalf by the Church of England might also need to be taken into account.
