If someone says 'we love you the world' does that even make sense??

If, by using the term 'the world', you are referring generically to the planet, and its inhabitants and lifeforms, then yes, it does make sense, with the comma inserted, as advised.

1.  do you want to love the whole world?

or 2.  tell someone you think the world of them?

it might be

1.  hey world, I love you all!

2.  You are so special, I think the world of you!

Which only go's to prove that after five pints it best not to text your ex.

Yeah it makes sense, not grammatically but via reading between the words. It means, "We love you so much we can compare it to the equivalent of how much we love the world", sort of thing. Sometimes it doesn't pay to try to over-analyse.
