Passed a Greggs today and a notice outside stated, ( only serving black coffee today, NO MILK. So the button they press for white coffee on the machine must have stopped working. There was a supermarket 20yards away with shelves full of milk?? Do they have managers running these shops or just machines. Not that i drink their rubbish.:●)

They are not going to pay supermarket prices for milk, it would wipe any profit out

Not at £3 plus per coffee barry

I had a similar experince some time ago in a Sainsbury's in-store café (since closed) when they said they had run out of fish. I asked if they would cook some if I popped into the store and bought it - you can guess how this went down 😁

Question Author

Really barry just for one day to keep customers happy. Never ever have i seen a coffee shop display such a idiotic notice.

Maybe their milk heaters and frothers were not working

Question Author

20.56 Yet in many countries they will just do that.

Amazing, but common sense after all.

They may have an exclusivity contract with one supplier. Or maybe there was a listeria issue with their hot milk machines.

Question Author

Maybe this or maybe that broke down. Its all about giving they customer a choice. Black coffee or i can add a splash of milk, maybe unscrewing the top off was to much for the staff to manage.:▪︎)))

I bet there was a choice of coffee shops, you'll never find a Greggs up a side street in a small village

Did you give them the benefit of your wisdom?

Question Author

Common sense just tells me such a notice would not just affect coffee sales, hence no one in the shop.

Never been in a Greggs', so can't really comment, but do they really use machines for coffee?

Jug of milk inside the shop . Customer takes cup of black coffee in and sniffs the delicious aroma of hot pastry pies and sausage rolls. Thinks he will buy one to eat with his coffee. Spends a lot more than he would have done had the machine had milk.

Thank you andres.

Great minds^^^jourdain

I think maybe it's all bound up in bureaucracy, like who is responsible for expenditure, or could they be sued if it goes wrong.

Such a shame because customer goodwill is priceless.

Question Author

Yep that was just my thought when i saw the notice, bureaucracy don't allow the most simple action to fix the most simple problem. Close the checkouts because no one can add up any longer in their heads or on paper.

Don't get me going about dumb checkouts - see the first entry on my TWAU in Jokes.
