We did contemplate it 20 years or so ago when the exchange rate meant that we could have sold up here and had a very comfortable lifestyle. Since then the exchange rate has changed and living costs in Australia are now very high. To be honest I am quite relieved that we didn't take the plunge - I hate large and poisonous spiders and snakes.

Genuinely interested - what is the attraction of living off grid ?
I watch programmes on the TV about people living off grid and always consider it takes a certain type of person to do that .
I've been to many countries, but to be honest I'm always glad to get home, so I guess that means I'm happy where I live.
The problem for me is when you visit places/countries its normally short term, so you never truely get to know if you could actually live there.
I know people who have sold up and moved to Spain, but lost a lot of money, and came home again, so I suppose the grass can always seem greener elsewhere, but trust me it definitely isn't necessary.
