One sided laws?

I put this post here, because all these things have been, and are news, I've been wondering, and maybe somone can put me right.

We know that with devolution, English MPs cannot vote on things purely Scottish, but Scots can in England, along with this, we have the Casino's going to be put up and down the country, quite a good proportion of the green belt is being proposed to be built on, and now a proposal for managed brothels. Do these things also include Scotland, or is it just England, maybe someone can enlighten me please.

Hi Lonnie, It's my understanding that the proposed Casino's and mini-brothels are to encompass the whole of the "UK" and not just England, although I may be wrong on that but certainly it was being discussed last year in the north of Ireland.

Thanks noxlumas, I have a Scottish friend who reckons they have nothing to do with Scotland, thi is the reason i've posted this, i'm trying to find out.

Hi Lonnie, not sure about this legislation, but Balir pushed through the foundation hospitals legislation through votes from Scottish MPs despite the legislation only affecting England and Wales.

Hi Lonnie.....that's a fair question since devolution seems to have caused more problems than it has solved.
Scots and Welsh can vote on devolved issues only, and it's fair that if England or parts of England had their own assemblies then only they should have the right to vote on only English matters.
What complicates the issue is that Westminster is a British Parliament, therefore all elected members should be entitled to vote on British issues.
It's a conundrum known as "The West Lothian Question" first raised long ago by Tam Dalyell MP, and has never been satisfactorily answered.

Hi ianess, I read the West Lothian Question, my real point is, and I don't expect many to agree with me, that since this goverment got in, bearing in mind that as you rightly point out, its a British Goverment, not an English one, but whereas Scotland and Wales now have their own goverment, England does not, and it seems to me, that a lot of new legislation they have, and are bringing out, seems to be applying only to England, a country that now, on the last census, dosen't appear to exist, we weren't, if you remember, allowed to put down if you were English, and still can't, we had social worker come to our home, (my daughter is handicapped), and one of the forms asked for her nationality, we said English, she said she wasn't allowed to put that down.

Hi again.....I agree, it's political correctness gone mad. As far as I'm concerned, I was born and have lived all my life in Scotland but am the product of a Scottish mother and an English father. I reckon that makes me British, which I'm proud to be and that's what's stated on my passport. It seems to unsettle some people if I don't say I'm Scottish....even Scots I've met abroad and who obviously must also have a British passport.
As they say, it takes all sorts but the lunatics are definitely in charge of the asylum nowadays.
