And no, it's not the fastest answer. I actually did one yesterday which was timed at one minute after the quesion had been asked. I'm sure, it must be possible, purely by chance, that an answer very rapidly provided might be timed as the same as the question.

My apologies, Lankeela. You are, of course, absolutely correct...for some reason I read the timing of your own response to the response at 23.57 rather than the 23.54 one I should have done.
If you click here you'll see the AnswerBank page on which my answer was timed at one minute later than the question, too. So, until someone actually does achieve the ultimate "same time" answer I mentioned yesterday, Morrisonker and I - plus probably many other AnswerBankers - have to share the prize! (Someone may already have done that.)
ID obviously doesn't stand for 'Identity Document', because I frequently hear in pubs - not addressed to me, sadly! - "Have you got ID?" No-one would say "Have you got identity document?"...without the word 'an' before the phrase.
Chambers Dictionary says, under ID (quote): "identification, identity". And the Acronymfinder website - possibly the major such online site - offers: "identification, identity, identifier".
The 'D' is simply the second letter of all the words drawn attention to above.

As the website makes clear, Jane, the acronym ID has 76 different interpretations! The question here, however, refers specifically to (quote) "ID cards"...small card documents the purpose of which is to establish who you are for those in authority to ask for that information...ie your IDentity.
I'm confused as to why your link refers us to Page 3 of the list. Was it for 'Information Document'? If so, that could presumably refer to any bit of paper with information on it.
But what the hey! Life's too short to bother about this any further!
