What does 'throw everything against the wall to see what sticks' mean?

..meaning let's put the idea out for general reaction of others; people rephrase phrases to keep them buzzing. like 'a pint short of a Party seven' , 'a card or two short of a full deck' . 'a sandwich short of a picnic' etc. All meaning ' a bit mentally 'challenged' So, with 'throw it against the wall... ' which was once 'let's run it up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes it' or 'let's drop it in the pool and see if it makes a splash' .

Urban myth (?) : - To test whether your spaghetti is properly cooked, throw it against a (tiled) wall. If it sticks, it's done. Many a student in the 70's did this - but I suspect it caused more mess than perfect meals!

The variation I heard of the saying was ' if you throw enough S*** against a wall some of it will eventually stick , meaning if you persevere with something you will achieve your aims.

Moonhead - I don't eat much pasta, so I don't know whether a messy wall's a true cordon bleu test. Anyway I'm married, so I'd lose my meatballs if I even thought of throwing spaghetti round the kitchen!
