My 14.5 year old lab cross (medium sized) has had a stroke which has caused left sided weakness. He is improving every day and is mobile and continent now. His appetite is reduced and his left eye does not focus very well. He is quite happy. Before the stoke he had heart failure and was on Fortekor 10mg daily and frusemide 40mg daily and spironolactone. Since his stroke I have managed to give him just the fortekor and frusemide.Q Is there anything else I could give him ? because of his age and heart problem my vet says to monitor his recovery x quality of life.but not alot else ! many thanks Julia

She was also a medium sized lab cross. She was in such a bad way that when I carried her into the vets after her stroke I thought the vet would put her to sleep, but she made almost a complete recovery in a comparitively short time.. She lived for a further 2 years and still managed a daily walk and enjoyed herself, although she slept for long periods of time. She was left with poor sight in one eye held her head at an angle.
One thing the vet did for her was to give her tablets to increase her appetite and they worked very well.
I am sorry I can't be more helpful about any drugs, but just wanted you to know that things can get a lot better for your dog.
I wish you all the best.
