Isle of Wight
I have just returned from the Isle of Wight after a few days there on the island and I enjoyed myself so much. My favourite places to visit were Osborne House (where Queen Victoria was in residence during the late 19th century), The Needles and the Waltzing Waters. My question is have any Answerbank members visited these places in the past, what did they think of it and also which places or attractions would they recommend to other people that is on the island if they were about to visit the Isle of Wight?

I have a friend who lives in Newport !
I always go to Osborne House ..it's always fascinating no matter how many times I have been there The gardens are beautiful.. Godshill is lovely and the Model Village is a must.Blackgang Chine ;Carisbrooke Castle and the Botanical Gardens at Ventnor.Shanklin is a lovely place and everywhere lovely beaches and scenery. All things seafaring in the coastal towns . The Pearl place at Freshwater is interesting. The views across Tennyson Down are superb.
There are loads of lovely old churches all over the island ...I love looking round churches ...St.Mildreds at Whppingham being particularly interesting because Queen Victoria worshipped there and it contains the Battenberg chapel.Princess Beatrice is also buried there.
Last time I was there was four years ago and we went to the Waltzing Waters .Ryde is nice and Brading..I don't think there is anywhere on the IOW that isn't nice!

I worked at the Brighstone Holiday Camp for 3 months in 1968. I loved the whole Island, we had such fun. There used to be a nightclub on a boat in Newport where we spent many happy evening. I actually met my husband at the camp. He came to saty with his brother and a friend. We kept in touch when he went home and started going out when I got home and married in 1970 (still together) so yes I love the place. We will have to back again soon.
