Where I came from an Offy was an off licence where you could buy your take away drink
Question Author

thanks above.

does that mean get ****** outside the off-licece?

Didnt do that sort of thing in my day. Too many foot policeman ready to give you a thick ear and frog march you home.

Nip down the offy was usually going down to get a packet of cigarettes or a bottle of stout. We really knew how to live it up in those days!

thx above. Seems nip down means go down.

I had thought nip means smashed. .lol.

Nip means go quickly, suggesting the off licence (where you buy drinks for consumption off the premises) is not far away. 'Down' may suggest you live upstairs - because you could just say 'nip to the offy' - but not necessarily.

thx all, makes more sense now.
'Down' (similarly 'up') is often used colloquially to indicate travel.

"I'm going down town to do some shopping."

"I'm just nipping up the shop for some milk."

etc.
