I was wondering if anyone could tell me the origin and the meaning of this saying.. I know it from playing darts,but don't know it's origin or meaning. Many Thanks. Eric.

I'm sure the 123 finish has been achieved countless times, Bob. Treble 17, double tops, double 16...or treble 15, double 19, double tops and a slew of other possibilities exist to enable that. It's just a standardised phrase such as is used in many sports.
Think of 'Horses for courses', for example. Saying that does not make it inevitable that a horse which has won lots of times at Newmarket is going to beat a horse which has never even run there at that course today.

Well, that's odd! My response above is clearly directed to the attention of Bob, as it was offered in response to a comment by someone of that name who had pointed out that a 123 finish was relatively easily achieved. Now that Bob's contribution has disappeared, that surely makes my one superfluous, too. Ah, the mysteries of AnswerBank life!
