I have a very old friendship book (1870s - 1940s) in which someone has drawn a lovely little cartoon of a man/boy with what looks like a great big number 5 on the bum of his breeches. Behind his back, one woman is whispering to another, "all that swank and his flag o' truce a showing."

Anyone know what it means?
