Fere libenter homines id quod volunt credunt...
We do not know that there is a now. Everything we experience has happened in the past, and it takes us time to receive, absorb and interpret the information through our senses.
Supremebeing, Bernardo - I don't know the answer, but can I nick your quotes for possible future inclusion in a book?
The past is always with us.
In the immortal words of Colour Sergeant Bourne in the film Zulu..."Because we're here, lad!"

Confucian saying: "You can never step the same piece of water twice" (or something like that).

Time is but a continuous sequence of nows.

This is going to sound out of context but 'now' was the time you wrote you're question, and 'now' is the time I'm writing my answer.
As it goes in "The Likely Lads" theme ..."It's the only thing too look forward to , the past.....

Who controls the past, controls the future
Who controls the present, controls the past

Not only can we go forward in time, we are going forward in time, at about one second per second.
Except when we're on film, when we go forwards (or backwards, or in any chosen direction) at 24 or so frames per second.

How long does "now" last? Once you've thought you are in the now, it becomes the past.

I reckon it's all a big con, this time thing, and we are all just a figment of someone's imagination, or am I just imagining it?

While I thought I was learning how to live, I have been learning how to die.
