Ee by gum lass, stop takin' mick

Anyone know the origin of this rather stereotypical yorkshireman's phrase, 'ee by gum'? My grandparents always say it, and it's often used by people attempting to 'talk yorkshire' or... take the mick! Where does 'take the mickey' come from?

Isn't it ee bah gum? Possibly from the same sort of origin as gawd blimey (God blind me) - bah gum - (by God) the ee bit is just a Yorkshire phrase the same as eyup (Hey you, look up I'm talking to you or something like that).

And apparently by gum does mean by God, so there we go. And as for Mick, that's just instead of taking the piss. Although why we say take the piss I'm not sure!

actually its 'ea by gum', its African cos if you rearrange the letters you get MUGABEY.

Can't answer for ee by gum , but taking the mick comes from taking the the michael bliss, which is rhyming slang for taking the you-know-what.
