In another part of this site, someone was described as a Bam. I have my suspicions about what it means but am far too old to be sure and my kids are out so can't ask them. Please put me out of my misery, especially you, Smithers.
Ah Glesga...home of the surreal insult.....ever been called a Walloper! or how about a Fallopian tube? The good wizard is correct...much as flip is used by some as a subsitute for fcuk, so bam is used as a milder form of bar-steward.
Although I am not from the glaswegionregion and actually God's Country (East Ayrshire) I work in Glasgow and am constantly surrounded by the Bams. I was meaning it in the context of the word ned (not Ned Flanders) or little ar$'holes that stand on street corners being a general nuisance. P.S. I don't think TW should be slagging off anyone considering he comes from some remote backwater on the dreaded grim east coast. P.S. Ever heard of a "natno" I.E. A typical glasgow/paisley girl that says "by the way i fancy him n'that'no".
Nice one! I posted a question before asking for useful Celtic phrases, but now we're getting to the really good stuff,.insults in another dialect. I shall surprise my Scottish best pal by calling her a bam or a ned as soon as I can slip it into the conversation.
