why are left-handers also known as southpaws as a lefty myself i was wondering, found this wonderful site, and just had to ask

Southpaw has its origins in 1880s' baseball slang. Baseball diamonds were often arranged so the batters would face east, to avoid looking into the afternoon sun. The pitcher's left hand, or paw, would therefore be on the southern side.

cheers guys ive now been once more enlightened because of this site!
ok, i'll accept that, but I thought it originated in boxing. I know it's used alot in boxing and I heard somewhere it originated there too, from someone who was left-handed, same reason as the baseball one.
