After being told I was as dim as a Tock H Lamp, I thought I'd prove myself otherwise and find out what one is. Anyone know?

Toc H is a charity that tries to promote a fairer society, at some point in its history its logo was an oil lamp often worn as a lapel badge, as such it gave no light and hence the (obviously unfair) description applied to you. ☺

Thanks....the spelling clearly indicates why I couldn't find it on a simple web search. Maybe I am that dim.....
The phrase Toc H comes from the World War 1 phonetic alphabet 'signalese', from which also come ack-ack (anti- aircraft), ack emma (a.m., morning), pip emma (p.m., afternoon), toc emma (trench mortar), and others. Toc H stood for Talbot House, a charitable institution set up in Belgium during WW1 to provide for injured soldiers.

Their symbol was a maintenance lamp, fuelled by oil so not particularly bright.
personally Toc H is too obscure. I would've used 'dim as a 10w lamp'
Booldawg, it was in common usage in the Royal Navy, and consequnetly in our house as my old man was a Naval man....
