Depends what you are asking.

As Delboy says Mandarin Chinese is the most spoken language, but only as a first tounge, i.e. the most people who speak it naturally if you will. Second as I understand is Spanish followed by English.

But as a language spoken either as a first or second tounge it's English.

So if the question is what is the most spoken language it would be english, where as if the question was what is the most spoken first language it would be Mandarin.

Esperanto, though supposedly a global language is spoken by very few people. Also, Mandarin Chinese is the most spoken language on the number of people who speak it, while Spanish is spoken in the most countries. I think this is as a first language.
