my nanna use to say to me " if you are not carful my girl i will see your head above your shoulders and knock it off" can any one tell me where this saying came from and could it be from the days of the gillotine

I would suggest it comes from the trenches in WW1 where if a soldier exposed his above the trench a sniper would get him.
