Would any of our friends please confirm the following:- 5 - Excellent creature in US Cowboys care (4) CLOD (clod another name for cowboy) 28 - Scottish snuff special / rather SNORE (snore is another meaning for snuff) Hubby thinks these are right but would like confirmation. As usual LOADS of thanks.
Sorry, Elderly, but I always meant to ask...Have you got a Chambers dictionary?
Re 5, one meaning of 'boss' is 'excellent' and another is 'calf'.
Re 28, the abbreviation for 'special' is 's' and 'rather' is 'more' , so together = smore, a Scottish word for snuff as in put out a candle.
Thank you Quizmonster. Yes my husband does have a Chambers dictionary and a Bloomsbury English Dictionary,
He says thank you and has checked - 28 - and now agrees BUT can't see how to change his words and letters round to fit in BOSS for 5. He has CL?D and can only make it CLOD. He is still working on it that is why he asked for confirmation.
Any more help please?
My apologies, Elderly. I'd overlooked the fact that 'clod' did exist but was placed elsewhere in the grid! I just thought your husband had made a mistake.
