Personally, I agree with the DA, but there is also the story that it is a corruption of "Deluxe Box". Many years ago some thing (might have been Meccano or something like that) was sold in a "Standard Box" and a "Deluxe Box", the deluxe being the best there was.

Delux box!! sounds more appropriate for a woman, but its a great answer, thanks, not even sure if its true, but will do for me.

And as ive never licked my bo!!ocks or my dogs I dont know what to say about The DA's answer, only he knows that!!

yes I heard that recently, its from Meccano, they had
"Box Standard" and "box Deluxe" on the packaging, thus by corruption we get, 'bog standard' and 'dogs ********'.
