my grandmother used to say "he's got the luck of a thin necked priest" Any one able to shed some light on how this originated?

I can only think that this may derive from the time of Henry VIII and the dissolution. Maybe if your neck was thin the axe made a clean cut at execution and you were licky not to suffer
