cockatiels
6 Answers
We have been breeding cockatiels for the past 6 yrs and have had/got some lovely birds. We have a cin/pearl hen a pied /pearl ******** who throw cin/pearl males and white face cinnamon males and females.
Also a golden pearl lutino hen with a normal gray ********,they are throwing lutino males, golden pearl males and pearl hens.A normal pair who are throwing normals, males and females and lutino hens, and webought an albino hen.,she has red eyes, we can see that much ourselves.I was told she was from 2 splits so that denotes its sex.
Is there anyone out there can give me some advice on what to pair her off with next year.We have a white face/cin male (parents cin/pearl hen and pied ********) which we are keeping as he is very friendly and talkative. We normally let them pair off on their own,but as these are this yrs babies i am thinking of keeping these tog caged in the hope that they will breed.
Anyone out there willing to give advice on the cols we may get?
These birds live in luxury...............the aviary is heated and has a radio on 24/7,lighting and 2 flights,so they all are loose and go to bed each night when it is dusk. They all fly in when it gets a little dark and roost happily untill the next morning.Looking forward to some interesting answers,as im sure there are plenty of breeders out there with all sorts of advice.I will add this we have friends who have bred these birds for years and when we got our golden pearl lutino hen, they took one look at her and said what a beautiful ********.................ooppss!she has since had 4 rounds in the past 4 yrs.

Hi,if you know they are definaltly henbirds then you have a BIG job on your hands......hens usually are not that happy to be friends with anyone other than a mate.
We have 2 hens who are quite steady and admitadly one of them sits on my head but you offer your hand and she just takes off
You may get them eventually to settle a little in the cage .but it will take along long time....if i was you i would be splitting them into individual cages..thats you only hope of any one of them MAYBE steadying enough to perch on your hand.
You would of been better off with 2 males, little and often is the key and then it could take you months...........sorry.........but as i said males would of been better..especially if you love handleing them .but ofcourse you wont be doing with the hens as i guess they wont be still for you...........and be carefull as 2 in a cage is good.............but if one is startled then the other will scream and be startled aswell and then if both are flapping around ..especially if its not a BIG cage.then they will end up hurting themselves...
