OK so I fixed my shower the other day because water was coming out luke warm(descaled and cleaned) put it all back together and hot water returned. Now, a few days later, water is luke warm again.

Shower = Mira 88

Boiler gravity fed on-demand boiler

When I turn on the shower the boiler fires but water is luke warm. (I get the odd day when it decides to come out hot)

What can I do?

Hi Dawkins,

There are various types of Myra 88 showers. Some are manually controlled and some are thermostatically controlled.

If yours is thermostatically controlled then I would suggest that it requires cleaning, i.e. a build up of scale in the inners. I would suggest that your shower is letting more cold water pass than hot water.

If the hot water in your bath and washand basin is as it should be then I am right in saying that the thermostat in your shower is clogged with scale or other debris.

Regards

Sounds like the cold supply pressure is too high relative to hot.

See if you can reduce the flow of cold water passing through your shower by turning the gate valve down a bit from the header tank to the cold inlet of the shower.

Or reduce the amount of flow to your boiler to gain higher temperatures

( are you sure it is gravity fed on demand ) not stored in a copper cylinder ??? doesnt sound right to me. Only come across this a couple of times in twentysomthing years and they dont like modern bathroom habits & fittings.

Hi Gasman

Well, i'm a bit ignorant of all the terms but basically the cold water is stored in the loft and when i turn on the shower/bath/sink the boiler located in my bathroom cupboard fires up. The central heating is on a separate but identical boiler in the garage and works well.

I've actually gone as far as closing the cold water valve to the shower so that just the hot is going through. The boiler fires but the water remains tepid (save for the odd time). Hot water does come out the taps (occasionally goes cold for a bit then heats up again).

its a puzzle
