Poison Book

If you have read Agatha Christie and similar authors from that period you may have read in some of them that people buy poison from a chemist and they have to sign the poison book.Does anyone know if the poison book still exists and if you can still buy poison this way?
I ask only out of curiosity,not intent.

Every pharmacist is obliged to keep a poisons register. They are permitted to sell 'Schedule 1' poisons under certain circumstances. The relevant rules for pharmacists are here:

Not all that long ago I wanted to kill off all the weeds on an allotment that I had just acquired. I was advised to purchase some ************** weedkiller.

Having tried everywhere to obtain this particular brand I was pointed in the direction of an agriculture supplier. After asking all the questions under the sun I was then asked to sign the Poison Book before he would let me have any
