devil's advocate? Is there a phrase for when someone says something deliberately controversial just to get a reaction?

Such a person might be called a provocateur...a French word, but often used in English for situations like this. His/her actions would be called 'provocative', despite the tabloids use of that word to mean 'sexually tantalising' and nothing else.

I must confess to doing this. I am very tolerant and not easily bored, but sometimes people can be so tedious. It usually occurs after a some drinks, but not enough drinks. Anyway, the term usually used, by those who are not rolling around laughing, is b.i.t.c.h.
