It's a word found in some Gnostic writings of the early Christian period, and possibly relates to Abraxas, a Greek word used by some Gnostic sects to personify a deity. The latter is probably of cabbalistic origin, from the Hebrew abra' kesa, 'hide the four', meaning God.
