buried a feather and thought it would grow a chicken
There's one version that thought didn't do anything.
e.g. 'I didn't know you were going out this evening'
' Oh. I thought I told you.'
'Well, you know what thought did.'
Like jimmysipples, I was always told that thought planted a feather and thought it would grow a hen.
The one we've always said is,
You know what thought did
Peed in bed and thought he was sweating.
I was always told that thought thought his bum was hanging out of bed so got out to push it back in again!
An old catch phrase- "Dont think about it Malcolm, it'l make your brain hurt!
My old mum in the 60s when I was a kid used to say - You know what thought did - Followed a muck-cart and thought it was a wedding
I've heard the same version as eddiebun.
followed a muck cart and thought it was a wedding
followed a muck cart and thought it was a wedding..............................No he didnt - he only thought he did : )
Thought he'd farted when he'd s**t himself.
thought thought a muck cart was a wedding train and then it dumped on him !

sort of combines both threads
thought he'd got a paper-round and when he looked it was a toilet roll
i heard the same as spring!!
My mother in law once said 'Thought thought he'd sh*t himself and when he looked he had' and I thought "What?!".

So my old boss once got cross with me for doing something wrong. In my defence I said "...but I thought..." and he interjected "You know what thought did?" to which I answered "thought he'd sh*t himself?". My boss retorted " NO ... F**K ALL". Lovely. Poetically nuanced humour wasn't what he was known for.
Thought thought wrong, however he did attempt to think which is much more than most.
Wet the blanket and blamed it on the sheet.
Basically 'thought' came up with its own answer.
Basically, 'thought' assumed its own conclussion/ answer....
thought Sugar the bed and blamed the blankets
