How do you create a tick in Microsoft Word? It doesn't seem to be in the insert Symbol box...

Go to Start - Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Character Map. From the drop down menu, choose "Wingdings" and you'll find a tick on the bottom row. You can Copy and paste it. HTH
in the insert symbol box change the font from normal text to Windings at the very bottom you'll find the wee tick, that should work without you having to leave word :-)
Even easier change the font to Windings and press 'a'.
Oops that should have been webdings not windings. in windings hold down the Alt key and press 0252
