this would have been better in motoring - my father has a car with an easytronic gear box, a mixture between a manual and an automatic

In reality it means an fake automatic gearbox that is not as good as a real one.
Its vauxhalls name for a semi automatic, it does have a full auto function as well as a tiptronic style manual way of selecting gears. However the gearchanges are quite slow at times, and I dread to think what they will be like on aged/higher mileages.
