It means that it is possible to make a living or a profit from almost anything; it is wrong to dismiss anything as waste or of no value to anyone, or to overlook an opportunity for that reason. It is also said to people who adopt a snobbish attitude to those whose business is basic, one where you get your hands dirty. That business is just as worthy as one which involves wearing a smart suit and having no dirt !
