I guess it came from the same stable as the more recent 'lite' as in 'Lite Bite Restaurant'. (Indeed, isn't there an American beer also called Miller 'Lite'?) I imagine the reason for such barbarisms is that they are supposedly 'easier' to read/write. Perhaps they should extend that approach and advertise a 'Kwiz Nite'.
