Law regarding parking near yellow lines

Outside my sons school are double yellow lines , there is no pavement only a grassed area adjacent to these lines. The school and police have said we cannot park on these lines to pick up. The road is a dead end so no thru traffic. I was wondering whether by parking on the grassed area you take the yellow lines out of the equation as you are no longer on the road.

Why not walk to the school,at least you won't risk running over a child or another parent who is picking up their child. The parking restrictions outside schools are in force for a reason.

Here's an example for you:

For many years, fans of Sheffield Wednesday FC would park (on match days) on the grass verge of a long road, close to the ground, which had double yellow lines. One Saturday, over a hundred car drivers returned to their vehicles to find that the police had 'ticketed' every one of them, because the yellow line restrictions also applied to the grass verge.

Anyway, as Bednobs points out, it's illegal to park with even one wheel on the kerb (except in those areas where there are signs to specifically authorise on-kerb parking). Putting all 4 wheels there is just asking for trouble!

Walk, the lines are there to protect kids and to allow Emergency Services access to save little Johnnies and Jennies. Shanksies Pony is the way ahead!
