I am deleting Answerbank from my shortcuts, and unsuscribing. As its no longer a forum for Q&A, Its just fallen into a social network and constant pointless threads leaving genuine questions to dissappear to page 20.

I cant understand why the webmaster puts up with all of this, the site is now mostly pointless and the users dont seem to beable to follow any of the rules that used to eb adheared to.

The only good reason for using the site would be the archive of questions that were answered before all this twaddle started. The only problem being the search function is totally useless.

I know exactly what you mean, mate.

It has now been taken over by a hardcore of a dozen or so users (I won't name names - they know who they are) who have turned it into their own personal little community, clogging up the site with their inane banter.

I'm not a regular "spammer" or "RIU" (Regularly inappropriate user) though.

I think the chatterbank section that is happening soon will reduce the clog in other sections, leaving them free for genuine questions. So i wouldnt worry.

It might only last a week though as apprently theres a vote on whether it stays or not. ;-)

Here's a possible solution...
Instead of just Post an Answer add another option, say. Post a Comment. Then add a choice of View Answers Only, View Comments Only or View Both.
Those posting comments as an answer can be reported.
That way, those of us who just want to get an answer to a question can filter out the inane comments from the usual suspects!

jno is right ~ I post on other sections besides B&S..and to be honest I can always find 'sensible' Q's on B&S too.

Quite easy to skim over the tat, if you so wish!

There is absolutely no cause for concern. After a number of categorical refusals, AB has decided to reinstate Chatterbank for a week. Why ? I keep asking Why ? Let's wait for the poll and see. CB was mainly a huge source of amusement, and I remember far less savage than a few epic fights we have seen since in B&S, really nasty ones.

People like online squabbles, they draw the crowds. The ones that bother me are the ones that get too personal. The most are just delightful hot air.
