Why do some British / English people on this site use black American slang words like 'wardy' or 'ward minter'? Is it fashionable? I think it just sounds silly. What's wrong with 'mate'?

It's not slang - 'Wardy' and Ward Minter' refer to a specific Answerbank Member.

His initial name was 'Ward Minter' and he has enjoyed a variety of incarnations snince - his latest is 'Bewlay Brothers' because he is a big Bowie fan.

A lot of the regulars here know him, so refer to him as Wardy - that's why you see this cropping up.

Hope that solves the mystery.
