As a child I used to ask my parents lots of questions usually of the " Why do/ Why are ...? " and usually got the response " Because God loves Ireland ! " ( Free translation - I dont Know/ Go Away ! ). I've no idea if this was ever a phrase or just something they said to shut us up! Does any know or have a different parental phrase for " I dont Know"?
my father always used to say "because your mother said so!" and my mother used to say "because your father said so!" so basically i grew up a confused kid!
To the question "What are you doing, mummy?" the response "I'm making a wim wam to wind up the moon" is a response I've heard from a friends grandmother. Another version of this i've heard from a totally different source is "I'm making a wim wam for a wowser." More confused kids I reckon..
my nephew always annoys anyone close by with the marvelous word 'why?'...my sisters response after a few rounds of 'because it does', is 'because why has a curly tail' and this always confuses my nephew! and more or less keeps him quiet for a few minutes!
