I've only got round to this today. I've solved it but can someone confirm that the unchecked letter in 2d is E, please. I've got to that by excluding all the other letters in the preamble but can't find anywhere that the word I have got for 2d is changed to that. I do have one complaint about this crossword in that I have had to use Chambers, Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable and three websites to confirm the other 27. Still, it was fun.

Hi Andrew

Some people here are touchy about THEIR Listener so be warned.

Your process of elimination is correct Andrew, but take great care in the top left hand corner of the grid - there is a possible pitfall there.

Thanks. Your comment about the top left hand corner worries me though! The only one I had any concerns about was 1a but Chambers confirms that. Hmm.

I suppose your comment

but can't find anywhere that the word I have got for 2d is changed to that

made me slightly uneasy, but if the unchecked/mutually checked letters in the 14 entries match yours, then you should be OK !
I have only just completed, and 2d was the last one I didnt understand, originally I had a 4 letter answer then realised it was a 6 letter answer

Thanks Cruciverbalist,
I'll just ask one more question and then I'm on my own. Is the confirmation of 2d in Chambers or Brewer's?

Thanks Gribble,
I'm bouncing with joy. I had a four letter word which I now realise was wrong! No need for a reply, Cruciverbalist.
