i applaud the father of the youth who has just received a three years jail sentence after informing the police that he had a gun i suppose his son will now disown his father but as his father said this could have led to a greater sentence if he had not done this if his son had shot someone at point other wise what's was the gun to be used for

the "question" is do others think he did the right thing
I completely agree with you, he should be thanking his Dad, I heard somewhere he said he didn't blame his Dad , he should be bloody gratefull his Dad informed on him or like you say it could've been a ot longer of a sentence!
No only that there would probably have been another innocent passer-by caught in the crossfire like little Reece again!
GOOD ON HIS DAD!!!!

No - can you really imagine anyone in their wrong mind (not a typo) thanking his dad for informing on him?

People like us do not think like gun-toting kids.

We can see common sense because we have common sense...but to expect our though processes to be universally accepted...the world just isn't like that.
"Only" three years? I thought the guidelines were five years for firearms possession?
If every case of possession were given five years, no time off for good behaviour, time added on for bad behaviour, then the message would be sent out loud and clear.
Fully applaud the father.

However, should he have got 3 years? He was holding the gun for other people (in fact he hadn't touched it - it was bagged and sealed). He hasn't informed on those people since his life would be in jeopardy if he did.

What has been gained from sending him to prison? Is it a message to people scared into holding a gun?

What about if you found a gun in your child's room - would you call the police and have your child put away for three years, or dispose of the gun and try and talk sense into your child?
i was fired , at by an urchin , in green street , in enfield , by a liitle toe rag , mind you it was an air gun ,,,,,, i was in a car , on my own , it was daytime .... maybe some other abers , say , damn it this air gun sniper should , should have fired at me personally , rather than the car ....

if a youth has a gun in the room , hes gone past being sensible ..... we all know uk laws have become , too flexible .......
Stupid English law. The thing to do was to give a suspended sentence and praise for the Father. Giving him 3 years is to Stop people doing what the father did.
this society is beyond repair ,,one thinks ....
I agree.

Kids these days cant even write and punctuate properly!
3 Years and out in 18 months or Life in Prison.

I know what one I would want.

Good Old Dad x
