when pigs fly what are your thoughts

I have found the perfect gift for a friend of mine who likes pigs - she likes their general attitude :-D It's a cast iron pretty little pig with gilded wings. The expression when pigs fly does come to mind... so to me this gift is a hopeful symbol, saying: see, pigs do fly now and again! The "impossible" may happen.

We don't have that saying in Sweden but I'm going to tell her about the British/American one when she opens the box. My question for you is if there are any other connotations to the image of a flying pig that you would immediately think of. I don't mean google for me, I mean what are your immediate thoughts.

It makes me think of the Pink Floyd album, Animals, which had a flying pig balloon on the front. The balloon got free from it's mooring and aircraft had to be warned of it. Imagine being in a plane and seeing a huge flying pig!

Still, if your friend isn't Jewish or Muslim probably no problem. Pigs have a long cultural history in society, of course, with special reference to being dirty, which is very piggist. But I think flying ones are only summoned up in the single usage you already know about.

jno is right about the dirt thing. They are only dirty because humans put them in dirty surroundings. Pigs are very clean animals by nature. They roll in mud because it's a natural sun block, otherwise they would burn. Recent tests have shown pigs to be the 4th most intelligent creature on the planet. I would love a pet pig, but I'd need a dwarf variety, obviously, you can;t have a hulking great sow on your sofa.......or can you?

puddicat is a childish way of saying pussycat. In the film cartoons of Sylvester and Tweetie Pie, the bird used to say 'pudditat'. Regrettably, Sylvester never got to eat him.
