Dear Andy, I spent over half my working life in military service. I've heard and used...ooh, several...wickeder words than the one we're dealing with here! Mind you, I agree that text-acronyms are a pain in the...well, you fill in an appropriate word. Cheers

Of course, E...what a delightful word! I decided to check it out and the earliest-recorded use of it was in a book by C Monckton called 'Some Experiences of a New Guinea Resident Magistrate' - they don't make 'em with titles like that any more either - published in 1920. The relevant sentence reads: "You have a big boil on your sit-upon"...really.
