Not quite up to Ross's standard, but was it wise so soon after.

Taking into account that Jeremy is an educated person, this was a silly remark to make. He could have made a much less offensive remark such as:

'You've got to change gear, change gear, change gear, check mirror... eat a 'Full English'. Change gear, change gear, pay another visit to the 'Greasy Spoon' That's a lot of effort in a day.'

Why did he have to make the remark about murdering prostitutes?

As a trucker myself, these people who complain should get a life.

I found the whole show hilarious.

He's got to work a damn sight harder if he wants to cause emotional upset to us!

As the ex-wife (almost) of a trucker: I have to agree with panic button. I don't think there would be any lorry drivers offended in the least little bit by the likes of Clarkson. Most ,I would guess , think he's hilarious and just on their wavelength. Certainly my ex revered him, and most likely still does.

I also found it very funny. If people keep complaining about everything then it's all going to get very boring as they will have to be too careful about making jokes / what they say etc.

I imagine the actual answer is 'because he can', oldgit. One of the morals of the Brand story was that these highly paid performers have control over their own shows; if producers try to rein them in by enforcing BBC standards, the presenters simply have the producers sacked.

Zacsmaster, that was also true of the Ross/Brand programme. It was prerecorded, and supposedly vetted before broadcasting, but seeming the vetters saw nothing wrong with it. That doesn't necessarily make it right.

I thought it offensive and tactless but would not bother to officially report it. Perhaps I should. Maybe if all the silent majority started to speak up, we would get a better standard of broadcasting. There is nothing remotely funny about murdering prostitutes- imagine how the mothers and family of these girls would feel on hearing that remark.

Yes Lyn, I was about to come back on and recognise the fact that it is not the truckers feelings that are in danger here.

However most comedy has the potential to upset somebody, and I don't believe that is a reason to avoid it. It would end up a pretty boring world if the taste police always had their way.

My guess would be that the segment was recorded before the Ross/Brand fiasco.

It's time that everyone just settled down a bit now. None of us want to get to a stage where broadcasting is so bland and inoffensive that we have 24-hour Titchmarsh TV.

I can't stand Jeremy Clarkson. Boorish, laddy and frequently (and mysteriously) homophobic.

However, his comment made me laugh out loud because it was funny.

He's not saying that murdering prostitutes is funny...he's just playing up on the myth that lorry drivers are dodgy because of a couple of cases.

I still can't stand the fella though...or that little rat-like man who crashed at 150mph or whatever it was.

we all make silly remarks and then regret them but hey thats life..deal with it..

We all say things we regret but this was pre-recorded and we don't all have editors following us around who are supposed to be enforcing editorial policy.

Top Gear was moved from 9pm to 8pm if they want to stay there they should behave.

Otherwise put them back on at 9

Of course, Jeremy Clarkson is the voice of middle England rather than young, fashionable tabloid fodder so don't expect there to be too much of a stink about this.
