Cosmetics - the Big Con

Ok; offence alert! - Following on from Redhead's question.
Although I consider women to be generally much smarter than men, I never cease to be amazed at how easily they can be conned.
Why do women, and quite a few men, pay perfectly good money to have hair, that evolution has determined is a sensible idea, torn out by its roots?
Not content with that, they then pay a small fortune for overpriced coloured lard which they slap on their faces, and then remove carefully with expensive cleansers and the like before applying more expensive additive rich and relabeled Nivea to put back the oils and other goodness they paid a fortune to remove before putting on the slap which ruined their skin in the first place!
Many women spend 2000 per year or more on cosmetics and "beauty" regimes, which could pay off the mortgage ten years early, buy a new car every few years or even put a child through some lesser private schools.
My wife wears make-up for special occasions only, but most of the time uses none. Her skin is still in wonderful condition, even though she is deep into "tropical moments" territory.
Am I the only one to believe that women are having their confidence undermined by all and sundry in order to justify the existence of the cosmetics industry which, by means of the stock market and various other financial institutions, is primarily run by men?

I don't go for the caked-on make-up look, nor do I believe that you have to buy major brands to achieve a good look.
personally, I'm single and in my early(ish!) 40's, and most single men are looking for someone younger than me.. it's all a bit soul destroying and all I can do is try to look my best.

Word-Smith I take it you’re a guy. Would you prefer your lady or woman to have a moustache and sideburns? Some female get those depending on hormone levels/production especially when they reach menopause. Those hairs can become very ugly and a nuisance to the woman, leaving them with no other choice than to have said hairs permanently removed.
