San Francisco general info needed
4 Answers
Thanks to another thread I'm dying to sort out a holiday to San Francisco and possibly the coastal drive and vinyard visit. We don't have children, so can avoid the school holidays. Can anyone suggest the best time to book and the best time to go for the best deal? We're thinking September at the minute. Is it best to book earlier rather than later or hold on for some last minute deals nearer the time. Also, which airlines do you recommend? Finally, is the best deal an all in flights/hotel package or could we mix and match without it costing too much extra. I say this because I've had a couple of hotels recommended that I'd like to include. Basically, any helpful San Francisco info would be gratefully received. Thank you.

However, you can always run into foggy weather in the early mornings and late evenings any time of the year. You just have to dress in layers. You are better off carrying a light waterproof windbreaker where ever you go.
We work in schools and therefore had to visit SF in August - I was froxen for the whole time we were there and didn't see the bridge at all too - foggy. Stayed at the Chancelllor Hotel, Union Square - great location, nothing toomuch trouble (see Trip Advisor).
Had a couple of nights in Napa Valley - weather in the 80's and brilliant sunshine all the time - wine to be recommended.
Stayed in Yosemite - wonderful - temp 100 all the time - gorgeous and spectacular scenery.
Couple of night in Carmel (Tickle Pink Inn) - loved it there too.
Always fly with Virgin - neve have any probs.
If you decide to go, one word of advice, book Alcatraz before you go as the chances of just turning up and visiting are zero in August.
