What is a lodge in the context of pond?
2 Answers
We live in a northern mill village and there is a lake or mill pond nearby.
Some of the locals call this lake a 'lodge'.. where does this come from?

It was also used to mean a subterranean reservoir in mines. Perhaps it was connected with the concept of 'lodging' something as a sort of deposit, as in putting money into a bank...ie retained for a specific purpose, as the water in a lodge clearly was.
