Empathic?

Hi
I know empathic in the case of emphatic victory means a considerable/clear victory. But why when empathic means the ability to understand someone else's situation etc.
Pls help.

They are two different words -

emPATHIC - possessed of empathy, understanding

emPHATIC - impressive or significant.

Just moving the 'H' changes the word, and the meanings.

I'd disagree only slightly with andy in that empathic implies the subject of the adjective is an empath which is different in tone or even direct meaning than simply having empathy. A true empath (if there are any) One source states "...Empaths are highly sensitive. This is the term commonly used in describing one's abilities (sensitivity) to another's emotions and feelings. Empaths have a deep sense of knowing that accompanies empathy and are often compassionate, considerate, and understanding of others..." A person can have empathy and not be an empath, but all empaths have empathy.

The contributor may be referencing empathetic as well... more to andy's definition, no?

Of course, andy is certainly correct about emphatic, no question...
