Umbrella Superstitions

I'm not sure if I'm in the right category or not, if I am I apologise, but my question is;

Why is it considered unlucky to leave an umbrella on a table

I've never heard of this particular superstition, but I'd imagine it's no more than an off-shoot of the much more common one that it is unlucky to put an umbrella up indoors.
As with most superstitions, you are unlikely to find a definitive reason for the 'unlucky umbrella indoors' one. There are some who claim it dates back to a time of sun-worshipping in roofless temples. Clearly, if you raised your parasol, you were denying yourself the sun's blessing and fellow worshippers no doubt beat the living heck out of you...so now we don't do it!
Highly improbable, I know, but no less likely than any other theory you might be presented with here!

I think you have your superstitions muddled up. its only bad luck to put up an umbrella indoors - its bad luck to put shoes on a table not an umbrella
