I don;t understand it, but I know you change to another benefit, my eldest son was in income based JSA for 18 months with no problems! But it musty have all changed now, I don;t understand why people who have paid in cannot claim yet those who have never worked can.

You get a maximum 182 days contribution based JSA. You need to have paid NI for two years preceding your claim. You get this regardless of how much your partner is earning or how much you have in savings and other assets.
After that time, you switch to Income Based JSA. If you have savings above the threshold or a family income, you will not get it.
I don't see why you think other tax payers should support you if you have savings.

So the government telling people to d=save for their old age is useless then.
Some people spend all their money on cigarettes, drink and going out others save and when both lose their jobs - the saver loses out and the non saver gets it all paid for?
What about if you're sick though? So you haven't been able to work for the previous 2 years?
The benefits system in this country is a joke. I agree with you bernie there are too many people who come and pay nothing and they know all the loop holes.

Hmm, you know everyone else's National Insurance contribution and work records do you? You should get in touch wi the local Benefit Delivery Centre, rather than use expensive computer records to see if folk qualify for JSA, they can just 'phone you and ask.
